‘Share My European City’ (SME-City) is a new project part-funded by the European Commission under the ‘Prevention of Crime’ programme. Visit the EU site at www.sharemycity.org. It aims to understand and put forward solutions to the problem of crime and ‘anti-social behaviour’ in city centres. The project’s approach is based on collecting, analysing and making sense of the stories of crime and disorder in city centres from the diverse points of view of all sections of the community – looking at the problem through the eyes of young people, residents, business-people, tourists, politicians and police.
After looking at the results of this data collection and analysis, the main objective of the project is to design and put into practice some new ways of working with conflict in city centres. These new approaches will be evaluated and, if they work, the project will explore ways of transferring them to other cities throughout Europe.

The project is running in three cities: the London Borough of Hackney (UK), Valladolid (Spain) and Perugia (Italy). An important aim of the project is to encourage different community groups to work together in the design, implementation and evaluation of the new approaches. This aim will contribute to a further objective of the project: the exchange and dissemination of best practices between European countries.
